Altus Elementary School -

Dear Altus Elementary School family: 

I am writing to tell you about an incident that occurred today at Altus Elementary. All students and staff are safe.

This afternoon, administrators received a report that a student had a gun on campus. Upon investigation by school staff, toy ammunition was found on campus, but no weapon of any kind was located.  

Nothing is more important to Altus Public Schools than the safety of our students and staff, and we are grateful this incident did not place any member of our school family in danger. We do want students to know, however, that even toy weapons can cause fear and concern, as well as result in unintended, serious consequences.

We ask that parents please remind their children that toy and look-alike weapons, as well as actual weapons, should never be brought to school or school events. Violation of this policy can result in suspension.
